Somone I used to know just sent me an e-mail. It says, “I’ve been reading your LJ entries and your posts on RPG.net and you really need to change your life.”
This person, who cut me out of their life, who hasn’t seen me for half a decade, has decided that I need to be saved… based on internet posts and the person they knew five years ago.
While I appreciate the concern, I’m also stunned by the hubris and arrogance it takes for someone who has refused to speak to me for five years (and refuse to even tell me why) to come out of the blue and tell me that I have to change my life.
They were even so glib as to assume reasons why J and I are no longer together. Assuming, of course, based on “facts” derrived from internet posts.
Good god, people. Are our lives so dull and drab compared to what we see on the screen we have to INVENT drama?
Either way, it amused and befuddled me. I was laughing the whole time. I called up J and told her about it and she laughed, too. Especially at the assuming why we’re divorced bit.
“(X) really doesn’t have a clue, does s/he?” she asked.
“Nope,” I replied. “I just wanted to give you a warning in case s/he calls you and tries to convince you that you need to be saved, too.”
It was an amusing break in my day. But, sad, too.

Post Script: The kicker? After I wrote back and assured X that “I’m really all right. I’m fine. I’m actually a lot happier than I’ve been in years,” they’re reply was:
“YOU’RE IN DENIAL!”
You just can’t win with some people. :-\
