A moment of sympathy

A lot of people won’t understand this, but I sympathize with Anne Rice. I don’t particularly like her books, but that’s irrelevant.

See… she’s had what we like to call ’round these parts, “a Wick Moment.”

(This is an archive because the post was removed from Amazon’s main website. Scroll down until you see “Anne Obrien Rice.” That’s her.)

Ms. Rice (I can call her that now… her husband passed away… and I know what it feels like to suddenly lose someone as important as a spouse to something you don’t really understand) recently lost it on Amazon.com, rebutting criticisms of her “last vampire book.”

So, she started writing a reply, found herself in the middle of a red-hot rage that wouldn’t allow her to listen to reason, and before she knew it, she hit the “send” key.

Now, see, the reason I understand Ms. Rice’s pain is because there’s this little man inside of me. And he’s pissed off all the time. Certain things trigger him. Stupidity, arrogance, and stubborness are a few.

It was a stupid thing to do, but I can’t fault her for it. Because in about ten minutes or so, I’ll probably do the very same thing.

Will someone let Anne know I understand? And, dammit, it’s okay to lose it every once in a while? Because, in the end, the people who really matter — they’ll forgive you.
