Bad Day

Friday was bad. The news from the doctor wasn’t good at all. I didn’t get the cable internet I was hoping for, and… other things.

I’ll just sit around and be sad for the weekend… then my buddies drag me to…

‘s Star Wars game rocked. I got to shoot Vader in the hand. Sparks flew. He yelled at me and looked at me like he was remembering my face.

Ah… drama.

Oh, and his Vampire LARP was very cool, too (he asked me to play an NPC I helped him make up, and I’m a sucker for St. Egg). I’m glad I got to see some folks and hope they make it out again.

Bodice Ripping

I accidentally shaved my beard (cut it too close) and everyone’s saying how nicer I look without it. Not nicer in the “it looks good” kind of way, but more like the “you look twelve years old” kinda way.

“Like Jeckyl and Hyde,” someone says.

“Except without all the killing,” I say. “And bodice ripping.”

says, “You can never have too much bodice ripping. I mean, when’s the last time you saw a movie and said, ‘There’s too much bodice ripping?'”

“Good point,” I said.

Another game…

I’m already writing flavor text for the CCG expansion, designing a dungeon crawl game, a ninja kung fu game, a political intrigue game… and my boss comes up with another one he wants me to work on.

That boy’s gotta stay away from the caffeine. 🙂

It’s her birthday today.

And I’m on so many back painkillers, I don’t think I can eat anything.
I don’t which one is making me more light-headed and ill.

(Late) Weekend Update

Good evening, I’m John, and you’re not a member of the union.

Friday
Canned the Vampire TT at the last minute. Went out to see Hulk. Pleasantly surprised. More than that. Ecstatic. I love that film. Got to hang out with which was 31 flavors of fun.

Saturday
Rob’s brother is in town (he saw Hulk with us) and has been given his own Secret Sacred Superhero Name. As Rob is officially “The Overtimer,” and Rob’s brother is just a little version of Rob, he has been dubbed The Overtimer’s side-kick: Punchcard! Together, they’re the superhero team known as Time-And-A-Half!

‘s kids had a birthday party in the morning/afternoon. I got the kids some goodies along with two Jesus Action Figures. It was a toss-up between Jesus and Moses. So, I let them fight it out. Jesus came out on top — only because he had an in with the Vatican Mob.

(Reminder: if I ever go to another “Come as your favorite god” party, get two buddies to go in on going as the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost again. We’ll dress up in black suits, wear black ties, black sunglasses, and carry violin cases. Casing out the competition.)

City of the Spider Queen was Saturday night. It was fun. I think I’ll have more fun once I get my super-kick ass bodyguard to fight for me when the shite hits the fan. Once again, was killed by Save or Die. I have a solution to this problem. I’ll be at Gen-Con to talk about it. Be there. Otherwise, the game was enjoyable. Got to get a good look at d20. It’s important that I look at it. Study it. Dissect it. So I may re-build it…

Sunday
ran the d6 Star Wars RPG. It was a blast and I can’t wait to play again.

Pain pain pain

All right. This is silly. I’m in agony at work. Seven cards left for the expansion and I can’t think of anything. My back jumped out of my body, mocked me, and ran away. Then, it came back and slapped me a few times, just for good measure.

I can’t think of anything but the pain. I’m so doped up, I’m afraid to take anything else… and I still have to drive through LA rush hour traffic.

This sucks.

Back BAAAAD

So much for the futon doubling as a bed.
I need a real bed. Big bed. Big magic bed. Like I used to have.
Having a wife in there with me wouldn’t hurt, either.

Hulk Review

I liked it.

I liked the fact that story was more important than special effects.
I liked the fact that character was more important than special effects.
I liked the fact that acting was more important than special effects.

I liked the invocation of myth and symbol.
I liked the invocation of the “death” of the mother and the “birth” of the modern age.
I liked the generational story of father vs. son.

I liked the pacing. It made me anticipate the action sequences.
I liked the action sequences. It’s obvious someone read the comic book.
I liked the editing. It’s obvious someone read the comic book.

I liked the fact he said, “Puny human.”
I liked the fact I was so caught up in it all, it wasn’t until the end of the film that I realized he never said, “Hulk smash.”

And, most of all, I liked the fact they included the line everyone wanted to hear… without him actually saying it.

I liked it.

Oh — wait. I liked Jennifer Connelly… I’d pay cash money to watch her read the phone book.
