The Wachowski brothers’ first assistant director, James McTeigue, is in final talks with Warner Bros. to make his helming debut on the adaptation of Alan Moore’s graphic novel V for Vendetta. According to Variety, the Wachowskis, creators of “The Matrix” trilogy, will produce with Warners-based producer Joel Silver. The Wachowski brothers were previously eager to adapt the novel, but were sidetracked by “The Matrix” trilogy.
A powerful story about loss of freedom and individuality, V for Vendetta takes place in an alternate future in which Germany wins WWII and Great Britain becomes a fascist state. In a world without political freedom, personal freedom and precious little faith in anything comes “V”, a mysterious man in a white porcelain mask who fights political oppressors through terrorism and seemingly absurd acts. It’s a gripping tale of the blurred lines between ideological good and evil.
McTeigue, who recently wrapped work his work on “Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith”, has also worked on “Street Fighter”.
