The Weekend

I went with and ROBZOR! to San Francisco this weekend with three purposes. First, to gain XP. Second, to visit his folks. And third, to visit , her sis, and Sean Y.

The first purpose went well. I met a lot of people, hooked up with some old friends, and otherwise had a wonderful time.

The second purpose went better than expected. We all trucked out to The Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum & Planetarium. I picked up some bling for Mr. Black at the Museum’s book store and we had great Chinese food.

The third purpose also went very well. bought everybody lunch at a Med/Greek restaurant. My memories of the Bay Area remain true: the food was great and the service was lousy.

All in all, a wonderful weekend.

SC Governor Wants ID Taught in Schools

My guess is he also wants astrology taught in astronomy classes, feng shui taught in geology classes, and homeopathy taught in biology classes. Hell, I should show up to teach alchemy.

Here it is, folks…

Someone leaked it. It’s definately not work safe.

Let me say that again: DEFINATELY NOT WORK SAFE.

My friends, I give you the unrated internet trailer for Basic Instinct 2.

Oh my…

d20 Fix

Instead of rolling a single d20 (giving you a 5% chance of rolling any facing on the die which equals teh suck), try this.

Roll 2d10.
(Yeah, yeah. I’m getting to it.)

If either die rolls 10, re-roll and add the result.

If you roll 20 or higher, you get a critical success.

If both dice roll 1, you fumble.*

For every 5 points over the DC, get +1 effect. (Damage, etc.)

___

* I hate fumbles. Failure is bad enough. But fumbles are part of the d20 System, so there you go.

Crisis

I need a new printer.
NOW.

I’d go with Lulu, but it looks like I’d have to re-format all my books from 5.5 x 8.5 to 6 x 10. Is this correct or am I smoking chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer?

Bush, NASA, and The Flat World

Bush is assigning Creationists to NASA…

(from the NY Times)

“In October, for example, George Deutsch, a presidential appointee in NASA headquarters, told a Web designer working for the agency to add the word “theory” after every mention of the Big Bang, according to an e-mail message from Mr. Deutsch that another NASA employee forwarded to The Times.”

“… The Big Bang memo came from Mr. Deutsch, a 24-year-old presidential appointee in the press office at NASA headquarters whose résumé says he was an intern in the “war room” of the 2004 Bush-Cheney re-election campaign. A 2003 journalism graduate of Texas A&M, he was also the public-affairs officer who sought more control over Dr. Hansen’s public statements.”

“… The Big Bang is “not proven fact; it is opinion,” Mr. Deutsch wrote, adding, “It is not NASA’s place, nor should it be to make a declaration such as this about the existence of the universe that discounts intelligent design by a creator.” It continued: “This is more than a science issue, it is a religious issue. And I would hate to think that young people would only be getting one-half of this debate from NASA. That would mean we had failed to properly educate the very people who rely on us for factual information the most.”

Editor’s note: George Deutsch got his job at NASA was a reward for being a loyal young republican. Otherwise, based on his reported comments in this and other articles – and I’m just guessing folks – but it would seem that he did not take very many science classes in college – political science perhaps. Not exactly the ideal background for someone whose job it is to communicate science. Perhaps we can get George to detail his background for us – and why he thinks that he knows more about the topic than the people who actually do the research. Personally I think George is in over his head. Based on the quotes in this article he is pursuing his own personal political/religious agenda – at taxpayer expense. What’s even more annoying is the fact that George seems to have been operating without any adult supervision by NASA PAO – or has the White House really directed NASA to do the things that George has been doing?.

Why I Only Design Dice Pool Games

In three rolls, all in less than five minutes, I rolled five ones.

1st Roll: I spent a hero point. I got to roll 3d6, pick the highest one, and add it to my roll.

My 3d6 rolled 1, 1, 1.

2nd Roll: Finger of Death. Fortitude save.

My roll: 1.

3rd Roll: We’re in Ravenloft. Roll a Will Save to see if I turn into a zombie.

My roll: 1.

I hate d20.

(This is an average night for me. People wonder why I play Amber and Diplomacy.)
