I’m coming back to LA this morning. But I can’t sleep. So, I’m watching VH1, typing nonsense into my journal, and reflecting.
I’ve been putting a lot of energy toward some goals and projects, and I think it’s time to change my focus and energy.
(Asia’s Heat of the Moment is on VH1 Classics right now. I suddenly remember junior high school. “And now you find yourself in ’82.” Yeah. In 1982, I was living in Georgia and completely in love with Susan, trying to find a way to tell her. How little times have changed: chasing after women I should not have.)
I’ve been putting a lot of effort into certain projects, but I’ve been doing it for the wrong reasons. So, a change is in order.
(Now REO Speedwagon sings about Rollin’ with the Changes. “I’ll be here when you are ready/To roll with the changes.” That implies that my own foreward progress depends on the decisions of others. Bad John.)
Time to work the lines, change the rigging, hoist the sails and turn the rudder. gave me some good advice two years ago (Geebus, has it really been two years?). It’s about time I listened to it.
I’m most productive when I’m in love. I know this. But, it’s an old habit. I need to ditch it. Secret is the perfect opportunity to do just that. When I was writing L5R, it was always for someone else. Everyone asks me, “Is Kachiko based on a real person?” My answer is always the same. “No, she’s based on a lot of people.” It’s true. There’s a little of every woman I knew back then. I wrote L5R for all of them. 7th Sea was written for Jennifer. Orkworld was written for my folks. It’s long past time for me to write something for me.
