All men dream, but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dream with open eyes, to make it possible.

— T.E. Lawrence, The Seven Pillars of Wisdom

While I read his biography and the book quoted above, I’ve never seen the film.

I just got done watching the first half, taking a break at the intermission.

“Nothing is written.”

Ah-men.

The New James Bond

His name is Daniel Craig. You recognize him from the first Tomb Raider movie, Road to Perdition, and The Jacket.

Yes, they traded a guy named “Pierce” for him to play James Bond.

Oh well.

Bible Quotes from This Weekend

I was at the Requium game this weekend, playing my Golden Dawn mystic, when the subject of Jesus came up. In a large group of people, I said:

“Jesus himself said, ‘Bring my enemies before me so I might kill them.'”

This caused quite a riot among some players. One even broke character and said, “Jesus never said that. Where did he say that?”

I said, in character, because I don’t break character, “I forget exactly where, but I think it is in Luke.”

Someone suggested I was making the quote up.

Well, here it is, black and white, clear as crystal.

In the parable of the talents, Jesus equates God with a master who is cruel to his servants (that’s us). He says that God takes what is not rightly his, and reaps what he didn’t sow. The parable ends with:

Luke 19:27
But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me.

This very line has been used on countless occassions to justify violence against Jews, Muslims, and other non-Christians. It’s an awful, terrible story where all the servants are punished because they don’t fear the Master (God/Jesus).

I wasn’t making it up.

LARPS and DISCORDIA

Last night was the first time I played in a LARP in almost a year. While I knew what the character was (Lasombra Abyss Mystic), I didn’t know who the character was. That limited my fun, but I still had a blast.

(I originaly typed “had a bast.” I should have left that in.)

Speaking of which, DISCORDIA! is now available at the WD Store!!!

A Few Notes

Yesterday, I made a comment about “finding the Tomb of Odysseus” and how that “proved” “the Odyssey is TRUE!”

Some folks didn’t get the joke.

And yes, it was a joke. Puh-leeeze people. After reading this journal for two years, I hope you’d know me better than that. 😉

Anyway, Ken Hite has reviewed Thirty, the farm, and Discordia. Some highlights:

Thirty
“the whole still resounds with the bravura and flair that Wick brings to stuff he lives.”

“a wealth of Templar info, and much other fun, plus those genius Fraternitas rules.”

the farm
“(a) bloody brilliant mechanic”

“brings home the deadliness of the situation in a way that no amount of evocative prose can”

Discordia
“a vastly wonderful system of ‘dogma’ and ‘catma'”

“I don’t know if it’s the best game John Wick has designed — it lacks (probably inevitably) the thematic unity and grace of Cat — but it sure puts the ‘play’ into ‘playable.'”

Finally, I’m observing Ramadan. Three days now. Damn, this is hard.
