Prove it isn’t true…

Proving a negative is silly. Nobody tries to do it. If you understand anything about the scientific method, you know that it isn’t interested in proving negatives.

Unfortunately, few Biblical apologists understand this. They think they have an understanding of logic, but fall flat when they try to use it. “A little knowledge is a dangerous thing,” and “Beware the man who has only read one book” come to mind.

Case in point.

I’m listening to one of these Biblical debates on-line. There’s a ton of them. The apologist keeps saying, “Because we cannot disprove God, we have to accept the possibility that God exists.” He then uses this as a justification of the Bible, the Ressurection, etc. For anyone who understands how logic and reason work, this is just enfuriating.

The pro-Bible guy uses it again when he says, “You cannot prove that Jesus was not Christ. You have to accept the possibility that what happened in the Bible is true.”

At the end of the debate, they invite questions from the audience. A guy stands up, opens his wallet and produces a drivers license and Social Security Card that identifies him as “Jesus Christ.”

Then, he says, “Prove I’m not the messiah.”

Beautiful. Absolutely beautiful.
