Angels are creatures of Light. Pure intellect. Reason.
Demons are creatures of Darkness. Pure emotion. Passion.
I am most fond of the Islamic myth of Satan’s fall. It is said that Lucifer was God’s best beloved. Lucifer loved God and that love was returned. So great was Lucifer’s love, it eclipsed all of Creation.
When God made Man, he told his Angels, “You will serve Man, and you will love him as you love me.”
But Lucifer said, “I only love you. I can love no other.”
And that is why Lucifer fell. His disobedience was not out of pride, but love. And the only comfort he has in Hell is the echo of the voice of the one he loved the most telling him, “Be gone from my sight.”
What if angels were once creatures of Light and Darkness? What if they were creations of Logic and Emotion?
And what if, upon their disobedience, God split them in two; separated the Intellect from the Emotion? Making them divided creatures who could not turn against him again?
Sun’s pure Reason and Moon’s pure Emotion, forever divided, only gaining a momentary glance at dusk and sunrise.
Each and every demon is part of a divided whole.
Each and every angel is part of a divided whole.
Lucifer, the Light-Bringer.
Gabriel, the Messenger with the Sword of Fire.
Eternally divided. Eternally alone.
